To build upon the success of the 2022-2023 season, including some of the highest ranked AAA teams Indiana has ever produced, the Indiana State Hockey Association (ISHA) is pleased to announce the return and expansion of Indiana Elite teams, which support ongoing hockey development for players in Indiana.
The ISHA collaborated to create Indiana Elite (IE) as a viable, in-state AAA option for Indiana’s top players and an elite Girls option; both have exceeded our expectations in the inaugural season for full-time teams. With the support of all Indiana youth hockey associations, IE is a program that allows players from across the state to live at home; practice as a team with experienced, professional coaches; and compete at the highest level of AAA hockey - all for one of the lowest priced AAA clubs in the Midwest.
In the 2022-2023 season, this year’s 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 AAA teams posted victories over some of the top AAA programs in the Midwest including the Chicago Fury, Team Illinois, Windy City Storm, Fox Motors, Biggby Coffee, Victory Honda, Ohio Blue Jackets, Belle Tire, Compuware and more! Many of these victories were firsts for Indiana 10U-13U AAA hockey.
Indiana Elite 16U has taken Indiana girls travel hockey to another level. With unparalleled practice time, coaching and training, Indiana girls have made huge strides toward their goal of women’s college hockey. In their inaugural season, the team was able to create a high-level schedule against several top-ten ranked, Tier 2 teams in the country and some AAA competition with impressive results. With extensive NCAA and AAA hockey experience, Coach Crown has laid the foundation for high level girls play and promotion to the top levels of women’s college hockey.
The addition of Indiana Elite 16U AAA and 18U AAA gives Indiana players an in-state opportunity, to attend their high school of choice while showcasing their skills in front of hundreds of USHL, NAHL and NCAA scouts. The 14/16/18U coaching staff (to be announced in March) has decades of experience, playing, coaching and recruiting at the professional, collegiate and junior levels. With an expansive network at the next level, IE players will have access to the best opportunities available to achieve their goals of playing elite level hockey when their youth AAA experience comes to an end.
Indiana Elite Girls Hockey Teams - This season will include an expansion of full-time elite Girls teams and support of local Girls and Co-ed Hockey at younger ages. This year's IE Girls teams will be:
The ISHA believes it is in player's best interest to offer a full-time Girls team option at 14U, which is the age when many girls decide to switch from co-ed to all girls hockey. This team will follow the same format as this year's full-time AAA teams, which offered limited travel to practice - one night of practice (two hours of ice) in Indy and a local skills session closer to home on another designated week night. The 14U Girls team will play a 35-45 game schedule against the top girls competition in the Midwest and compete in the Mid Am Tier 2 District tournament for a chance to go to the USA Hockey National tournament.
Indiana Elite AAA Select Hockey Teams - NEW this year and open to all Indiana boys and girls through a tryout process for the following age groups:
The IE AAA Select teams have been formatted to support continued local play for those players who don't desire full-time AAA teams yet but are ready for the next-level of competition as they continue their hockey development. All Indiana players are encouraged to tryout for the Select team - including those rostered to the full-time AAA teams. IE Select teams will be comprised of all the top Indiana players and will compete in three, elite showcases. IE Select allows players to build a foundation for future, full-time AAA play by representing the best of Indiana hockey.
The ISHA will hold a town hall meeting with President Tommy Schoegler, Vice President Derek Edwardson and Indiana Elite coaches on March 15 to outline comprehensive details on all IE teams for the 2023-2024 season. The meeting will be held via Teams at 7:00 pm. CLICK HERE TO JOIN MEETING
Information will be presented on coaches, season fees, tryout details, and there will be a time for Q&A.

The ISHA is pleased to announce the date and location of this year’s 10U Indiana Elite Prospects tryout camp from which our 2022-2023 10U part-time team will be selected.
We will host this camp in Fort Wayne on Sunday, August 7th. Players born in 2012 and 2013 will hit the ice for two sessions at the SportOne/Parkview Icehouse that day. (Schedule will be sent to all registered players.) Also on that day, we will hold an informational meeting for parents to outline the season in detail and answer any questions that you may have.
All interested players should register (link below). If you attended tryouts in April and are unable to attend the tryout camp on August 7, your April evaluation can be used but you must register to indicate your interest and intent to play if rostered. See registration and discount code information below.
About 10U Indiana Elite Prospects Team
After gathering feedback at our 10U tryouts back in April, it was determined that we have sufficient interest in a part time team from 2012 and 2013 birth year players who were not ready to commit to the full-time Indiana Elite team this season.
The goal of this 10U Prospects team is to work in coordination with all our Indiana associations to provide players with a higher level competition as a supplement to local programming. The IE Prospects will play in one tournament during the regular season and two tournaments in the Spring (March and May). We will also have three development weekends where the team will get together to practice and participate in team building activities with their coaches and guest speakers.
Cost for the season will be $1,500/player and includes all ice time, tournament fees, uniforms and team apparel. The only additional cost to families will be individual travel and hotel expenses.
About the Coach
We are thrilled to announce that Brent Gwidt will coach this year’s team. Brent has coached the Jr Fuel 15U AAA team for the past two seasons. Coach Gwidt grew up in Minocqua, Wisconsin. He played for the Indy Ice in the USHL and earned a scholarship to the University of Nebraska-Omaha (NCAA D1). He was drafted in the 6th round by the Washington Capitals in 2006 and played three years in the ECHL for the Utah Grizzlies ending his playing career as team captain. Brent currently serves as Director of Player and Coach Development for the IYHA in Indianapolis.

In March 2020, representatives from youth hockey organizations across the State of Indiana formed the Indiana State Hockey Association (ISHA). The ISHA is the governing body for both the Indiana Youth Hockey State Championships and the Indiana Elite AAA teams. The eight local hockey organizations from around the state each have a representative who serves on the ISHA Board.
Launched with the 2020-2021 season, the ISHA has offered Indiana Elite AAA hockey as a part-time option for players who are already rostered to a local Indiana hockey team. The Indiana Elite program has provided access to the AAA experience for players in all eight local Indiana organizations. By combining top talent from around the state, Indiana Elite AAA teams have competed with the top programs in the country, and done so as a part-time team.
The Indiana State Hockey Association (ISHA) is excited to announce that beginning with the 2022-2023 season, Indiana Elite AAA will begin offering a full-time team option as well as an Elite Girls travel hockey option.
“Indiana Elite has shown that by combining the best players from around the state, Indiana has the ability to have a top AAA program not just in this region, but in the country. This opportunity will allow families of top players to play on a full season, Elite AAA team that practices together a majority of the time. And, for the first time, we’re able to bring an elite level of girls travel hockey for top female players in Indiana and surrounding states that don’t have that option locally.” says Derek Edwardson, ISHA Vice President and Indy Jr. Fuel Director.
With this announcement and endorsement by the ISHA participating organizations, Indiana Elite becomes the state’s only AAA option at 10U-13U. The full-time Indiana Elite AAA program will provide players with over 100 hours of on-ice practice, including 30 hours of professional skills training. Team practices will be held in Indianapolis, conveniently scheduled one-night a week to minimize travel for families; skills and off-ice training will be done at local rinks. The team package also includes a pre-season training camp, five development weekends, and 3 hours of on-ice practice each week. Indiana Elite player fees also provide players with complete uniforms, equipment bags, warm-ups and other IE apparel.
Indiana Elite makes top AAA competition accessible and also affordable for families looking for high-level hockey. The cost of the Indiana Elite AAA program will be one of the most affordable in the region through the support of the teams’ title sponsor, the ECHL’s Indy Fuel. “Indiana Elite powered by Fuel” will be the partnership that takes AAA hockey to a new level in the state of Indiana.
Beginning this coming season, Indiana Elite will compete with these full-time, year-round teams:
The program will also offer a part-time 14U Girls and 12U Girls team that will compete under the current Indiana Elite format where girls will play for their local programs and get together for high intensity practice weekends and tournaments.
Tryouts for Indiana Elite AAA teams will be held April 15-16 in Indianapolis. Interested families can click here to register for tryouts https://indianastatehockey.sportngin.com/register/form/133886199.
A parent meeting will be held virtually ahead of tryouts for interested families.
We congratulate our 2021-2022 Indiana Youth Hockey State Champions!
Each Champion earned a State Champion ring for themself, a Championship banner to hang above their home ice, and their team name engraved on the Governor's Cup. Each Finalist earned a State Finalist ring for themself.
